Chanhassen High School
Waconia High School
The Waconia High School Girls Varsity Soccer team lost a tough battle against a balanced and disciplined Chanhassen High School opponent.
The wildcats found themselves under adversity early on when a defensive error resulted in a penalty kick 4 minutes from the initial whistle. Goalkeeper Kayli Thulin was unable to stop a powerful left footed shot and Waconia started the game 0-1.
The Chanhassen team continued to press high up the field and the continued barrage of crosses and shots resulted in a second goal shortly before half time.
Finding themselves 0-2 at half, the team rallied around a renewed defensive effort and concentrated on a tactical counter attack method to try to get back into the game.
A goal appear all but certain when a cross by senior Taylor LeMasters found senior captain Jaydin Zapf, however the header by Zapf missed the far post by mere inches.
Shortly after that play, freshman Mackenzie Ickert followed up a long distance shot and was almost able to punch the ball in, but a recovering defender denied the Wildcats with a well deserved goal.
With an overall record of 1-1-2, the Waconia Wildcats play again on Thursday September 10, 2015 at 7pm vs Mound Westonka at Bayview Elementary for their second conference match of the season.
