Multiple Teams · Coach Corey Shea to Lead Wildcats

It is our pleasure to announce that Coach Corey Shea has been selected as the new Waconia High School Head Football Coach. We are extremely excited to have hired an individual with Coach Shea’s knowledge, experience, and passion to work with our student athletes and lead our Wildcat football program!

Described by his peers as a dedicated and genuine leader, Coach Shea comes to Waconia High School after 16 years of coaching at the collegiate level, most recently as the defensive coordinator at Gustavus Adolphus College for the past six seasons. During his time as the defensive coordinator for the Gusties, Shea coached twenty-one 1st or 2nd team All-Conference selections. Prior to that, he was the defensive line coach at Gustavus for four seasons.

Coach Shea started his coaching career after graduating from William Penn University with a degree in Health and Physical Education. He became a graduate assistant and running backs coach at South Dakota State University. After finishing his Master’s degree in Athletic Administration, Shea spent two seasons at Minnesota State University, Mankato as the wide receiver and running backs coach. From there Coach Shea went to Wayne State College in Nebraska for two seasons as the quarterback’s coach and passing game coordinator. During his time on the offensive side of the ball, Shea coached 2001 Harlon Hill National Finalist Josh Ranek and 2004 Harlon Hill Regional Finalist Sean Treasure. (The Harlon Hill Award goes to the nation’s best player in NCAA Division II Football.)

Coach Shea will also be leading our students in the classroom as one of our physical education teachers at Waconia High School beginning this fall. Upon accepting the job offer, Coach Shea stated, “I am truly humbled to have been offered a position in which I will have the opportunity to serve as a mentor for the talented students in the Waconia School District. I am excited to begin our work together!” Welcome and Congratulations Coach Shea!

Coach Shea has scheduled a parent and athlete information meeting for anyone interested in joining the high school football program on Tuesday night, May 23 at 6:30pm in the WHS Auditorium. We look forward to seeing you there!
