Jordan High School
Waconia High School
The Waconia Wildcats opened their section 2A playoff tournament with a victory over Jordan High School in front of a home crowd at Bayview Elementary.
Fueled by the fans in the stands, the Wildcats utilized passing and team movement off the ball to create scoring chances early in the first half. Alexis Carmer’s first throw from the right side took the Jordan defense by surprise and the double team of Taylor Lange by the visiting defense left Chloe Jaeger open in the far post for the tap in.
Minutes later, senior Emily Seehusen would find herself in front of the goal after a perfect pass from Taylor Lange and the senior’s right footed shot found the back of the net.
Unwilling to give up the momentum created by the early goals, Waconia continued to press the visiting team and at the 9th minute mark senior captain Taylor Lange received a pass from Devin Breeggemann and her left footed shot made the score 3-0.
Jordan tried to counter to relieve the pressure by the home team but the Waconia defense anchored by senior McKenna Reickhoff and juniors Abby Kohner and Kennedy Mereness would give up any chances in the first half.
Taylor Lange would add two additional goals assisted by Alexis Carmer each time to make the score 5-0 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Jordan moved its defensive line up the field to create an offsides trap for the Waconia forwards and deny early scoring chances. In the 10th minute of the second half, Jordan had its clearest scoring chances opportity on a shot from 18 yards out but senior goalkeeper Kayli Thulin secured the ball.
Up next for the Wildcats is section rival St. Peter at 5pm on Saturday October 14, 2017 at Bayview Elementary.
Come cheer your Wildcats to victory!
