Wildcats News · Wildcats get swept by STMA

The STMA Knights were too much for our wildcats in our home debut, winning 84-45. We knew the Knights could shoot it from outside, and they lived up to expectations, hitting 11 3’s as a team, 5 of them going to Lehigh commit Mackenzie Kramer, who lead STMA with 31. The other knights ran the floor well and answered every time we had a chance to make the beginnings of a run. Quite frankly, they out-hustled us on the boards, for dead balls, and played more physically. We hoped to compete well against top-tier competition, but let some missed shots and lapses get to us. We need to amp up the intensity to compete against the challenging competition we will face throughout the season, so that’s what our goal is for these next days of practice – play physically, play intensely, and compete.
Allie Zimmer and Addy Salzer both had 11 for the the Wildcats, and Sydney Olson had 9. Other stats are being tabulated, and I’ll update on our website when they are there.
A similar story played out for the JV team, who played a close first half, but got outmuscled and outworked in the second, losing 61-28. 10 different players scored, which is good! Balance is a strength that we are learning to use at all of our levels, and we need to keep playing for each other at all times!
The 9th grade level also had a similar outcome, down 2 at the half, but eventually losing 33-21. Shots were rolling all around the rim throughout the game, refusing to go down, which was frustrating, but again, physicality is something that we all have to work on playing through and embracing, so we’ll get out the pads!
The Wildcats have 6 practices before we take on Chaska next Thursday, so we’ve got to get to work through the rest of this week and the next!
