On behalf of the Waconia High School Activities Department, which includes more than 100 coaches, directors and advisors, we would like to congratulate the Class of 2020 on their outstanding careers as students, as athletes and as participants in our fine arts programs.
During the past year alone, the Class of 2020 has accumulated and/or been a part of numerous team & individual achievements, let’s highlight a few of the many accomplishments!
Congratulations to our Varsity Show Choir, Power Company on earning a top 2 finish in all 5 competitions in which they competed including 3 Grand Champions, 5 Best Choreography awards, 3 times Best vocals and best band honors, 2 time best crew and Spirit Award honors — just to name a few!!
Congratulations to the following Wright County Conference team champions: the Girls Cross Country Team, the Wildcat Girls Soccer Team and the Boys Basketball team.
In addition to Conference Championships, athletic Team Honors also included:
- All State Academic titles for our Wildcat Wrestling and Boys Basketball teams
- Section Championship honors went to the Girls Soccer, Girls Basketball and Wrestling teams
- The Wildcat Wrestling team brought home the Class AAA State 5th place title
- The Wildcat Girls Basketball team brought home the 2020 Section Championship Trophy by defeating Marshall to earn our first trip in school history to the Girls Basketball STATE Championships where the Wildcats finished as State Finalist in a tournament abruptly cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Congratulations to our Waconia High School’s Triple “A” Award Recipients
The Academics, Arts and Athletics Award (Triple “A”) is a unique recognition program sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The purpose of this program is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in fine arts. In addition, the Triple “A” program is a tool to elevate academic standards and create a greater awareness of the value of high school activities. The Athena Award, sponsored by the Mpls Athena Committee recognizes and honors the athletic leadership of outstanding senior female athletes from 56 Minneapolis and surrounding area schools. Selection of the outstanding female athlete from each school is based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports. Students who excel in athletic activities, who show leadership qualities, and who are model citizens are eligible for the award. We would like to congratulate: Waconia High School’s 2020 Athena Award Winner: Sydney Shea!
The final award winners that we have the privilege to announce are the Senior Wildcat Awards that will be presented to 6 Seniors who have demonstrated commitment, dedication and leadership throughout their activities career at WHS. Criteria for the award includes the student being in good standing academically and the student participating in an activity each season (fall, winter & spring) during each of their four years at WHS. Twelve seasons of participation, is a rare feat to say the least during a busy high school career!
