Game Recap

The Waconia Wildcats fought the elements and a strong St. Peter team on Saturday at Bayview Field. With weather conditions less than ideal and torrential rain and strong winds in the forecast, the cats knew that they needed to play a physical game to mark the difference on the score board.
With St. Peter pressing the Wildcats early on, a corner kick for St. Peter found the Wildcats defense watching the ball and the shot by the visiting forward was destined for the goal, but senior goalkeeper Kayli Thulin made the save of the game and kept the score 0-0.
Fueled by the energy of the save, the Wildcats pushed forward and at the 19th minute found the goal on a great combination play. McKenzie Ickert used her speed to beat the St. Peter defense and her perfect cross found senior captain Devin Breeggemann who used her entire body to push the ball into the goal and make the score 1-0.
Hungry for more, senior Taylor Lange controlled the ball in the midfield and received a give-n-go pass that had her streaking down the left side, her cross was shot in by Chloe Jaeger and the score was 2-0.
The final scoring play of the 1st half was a great team passing play by the Wildcats. Freshman Melissa Honnold recovered to midfield to receive the ball from Haddy Falkman. Honnold played the ball to Aidanne Forceir. Forceir in turn played a perfect pass wide to Chloe Jaeger who beat the defense and played the ball back across the middle. Tess Johnson ran front post but did not touch the ball (but drew the goalie and the defender) leaving the person that started the play Melissa Honnold open on the back post and her shot made the half time score 3-0.
In the second half, Waconia dominated possession and had multiple chances to score. Having handled the pressure of the St. Peter defense and with the score in the their favor, the cats pushed the ball wide to force the St. Peter defense to adjust. In the 21st minute, after a great play wide by Alexis Carmer, a corner kick was yielded. Freshman Chanda Breeggeman was in charge of taking the kick and she played a perfect ball to the far post where Alexis Carmer in typical Carmer fashion headed the ball past the goalkeeper to score the final 4-0 goal.
With 5 minutes to go, the torrential monsoon rains and gusty winds took over the game and both teams were content keeping the ball away from their goal. The Wildcats earn a section semi-final match vs Mankato West on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at Casswell Park in Mankato.
Come cheer your wildcats to victory as they look to earn their ticket to the state tournament!

Game Recap

The Waconia Wildcats opened their section 2A playoff tournament with a victory over Jordan High School in front of a home crowd at Bayview Elementary.
Fueled by the fans in the stands, the Wildcats utilized passing and team movement off the ball to create scoring chances early in the first half. Alexis Carmer’s first throw from the right side took the Jordan defense by surprise and the double team of Taylor Lange by the visiting defense left Chloe Jaeger open in the far post for the tap in.
Minutes later, senior Emily Seehusen would find herself in front of the goal after a perfect pass from Taylor Lange and the senior’s right footed shot found the back of the net.
Unwilling to give up the momentum created by the early goals, Waconia continued to press the visiting team and at the 9th minute mark senior captain Taylor Lange received a pass from Devin Breeggemann and her left footed shot made the score 3-0.
Jordan tried to counter to relieve the pressure by the home team but the Waconia defense anchored by senior McKenna Reickhoff and juniors Abby Kohner and Kennedy Mereness would give up any chances in the first half.
Taylor Lange would add two additional goals assisted by Alexis Carmer each time to make the score 5-0 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Jordan moved its defensive line up the field to create an offsides trap for the Waconia forwards and deny early scoring chances. In the 10th minute of the second half, Jordan had its clearest scoring chances opportity on a shot from 18 yards out but senior goalkeeper Kayli Thulin secured the ball.
Up next for the Wildcats is section rival St. Peter at 5pm on Saturday October 14, 2017 at Bayview Elementary.
Come cheer your Wildcats to victory!
