The Wildcats led start to finish and coasted to a 49-30 win over section and conference foe Delano. Waconia built a big early lead, up as much as 20-5 in the opening minutes of the game. The Wildcat defense made it difficult for the Tigers to get on track offensively.
Nine different players made it into the scorebook and all 19 in uniform played in the game. Sidney Zieske led the scoring with 12 points. Courtney Freeberg added 10. Freeberg also had a team high 7 rebounds.
While official stats (available on our team website sometime on Friday) aren’t yet available the Cats were very prudent with their passes and had one of their lowest turnover totals of the season.
The JV Cats also won by a lopsided 49-20 margin. Sydni Olson netted 19 points. Allie Zimmer contributed 10. The JV team is now 13 and 6 overall.
The 9th grade team won 46-14 over the Maple Grove 9B team. Melissa Honnold had 22 points to lead the way. The freshman team is now 11 and 2 overall. That means all 3 teams have combined for an impressive 38 and 14 overall win/loss record! The future looks great for the Wildcats!
All three teams return to action on Saturday. The freshman play at 12:30pm, the JV at 2pm, and the varsity takes on Big Lake at 3:45pm at STMA Middle School West. The boys varsity game will follow the girls varsity action.
