Waconia traveled to Glencoe-Silver Lake for a Wright County Conference match with the Panthers. The Waconia Wildcats offense has come alive as of late and the defense continues to deny opponents goal scoring opportunities.
Using great passing during the kick-off play, Waconia marched down the field and a great pass from Chloe Jaeger left Bryn Theis alone with the Glencoe goalkeeper. Her shot found the side netting and made the game 1-0 early on.
Glencoe’s Paola Pena and Miranda Litzau used their speed to challenge the Waconia defense , but the commanding presence of Sydney Stellick prevented the attack from creating danger for the Wildcats.
As time passed, Waconia’s midfield began to grow in comfort and shots from the top of the 18 by Melissa Honnold, Chanda Breeggemann and Madeline Charbonneau kept Glencoe in its own half.
A great cross by Chloe Jaeger at the 20th minute mark found Paige Madden open on the far post and her left footed shot made the score 2-0.
Just 2 minutes later, a great long throw by Bryn Theis found Madden again open in the goal area and her shot made the score 3-0.
As Waconia continued to press the ball, a corner kick by Chanda Breeggemann had Jenna Fawcett in prime shooting position and her shot found the side netting making the score 4-0 going into half time.
To start the second half, Paola Pena’s blistering speed caught the cats off guard but her shot from the top of the goal area missed the net by mere inches. It was Pena again just a minute later with a shot from inside the six that forced goalkeeper Emma Wyffels to dive for the ball.
Waconia regained possession of the ball and another set piece by Chanda Breeggemann found Madeline Charbonneau inside the goal area and her header was perfectly placed to be saved by the Glencoe goalkeeper.
Melissa Honnold received the ball in the goal area from Chloe Jaeger and her powerful shot made the final score 6-0.
Up next for the Wildcats is Monticello at Monticello High School.
