Behind stellar play from Maddie Charbonneau, Grace Seim and Melissa Honnold, Waconia High School Girls Soccer advances to the Section 2A semi-finals with a 4-0 victory over SW Christian.
Waconia set the tempo from the initial whistle and holding possession of the ball created scoring chances just minutes into the game.
A corner kick by Grace Seim hit the front post and was deflected out for a second corner kick.
Just minutes later, a great pass from Jordan Grell found Maddie Charbonneau at the top of the goal area and he powerful shot made the score 1-0 in favor of the Wildcats. Over the next 24 minutes, Waconia would move the ball and continue to shoot on goal, but the score remained 1-0 until the 29th minute when a free kick by Sydney Stellick deflected off the SW Christian player and made the score 2-0.
Just 3 minutes later, Chanda Breeggemann would find Grace Seim with space in front of goal and her right footed shot beat the SW Christian goalie to make the score 3-0 at halftime.
Playing against the wind in the second half, Waconia looked to keep the ball on the ground and move the ball wide to take advantage of speed and space. Just five minutes in from the start, after brilliant play from the Wildcat midfielders, a give and go combination betweem Melissa Honnold and Maddie Charbonneau, would leave Charbonneau once again with space to shoot and her curving shot made the score 4-0.
Although Waconia would continue to push the ball forward, the SW Christian defense would hold and the final score of 4-0 would send the Waconia Wildcats into the Section 2A semi-finals.
