The Waconia High School girls swim and dive team traveled to Willmar to compete in the Section 3A True Team meet looking to advance to the State True Team meet held at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, October 12th. The Wildcats finished the Section True Team meet in third place, edging out 4th place Dassel-Cokato by 36 points. Since only the team that finishes first at the Section True Team meet advances to the State True team meet this left the team looking for a wild card spot. There are four wild card spots available for all of the remaining Class A teams that participated in their section true team meets but didn’t take first in their respective section meet. Unfortunately, the Wildcats fell just short and will not be advancing to the State True Team meet.
Regardless of this outcome, the Wildcats had a fantastic day of swimming at the Willmar High School pool. The meet started off with a bang as the team of Andrea Voelker, Ella Swanson, Abby Voelker, and Julia Bartell took first place in the 200 medley relay. The 50 freestyle saw two Wildcats take the podium as Julia Bartell finished 3rd and Andrea Voelker finished 6th. Freshman Jerica Warrington had the teams highest individual finish taking the second place spot in the 100 backstroke.
The Wildcats have their final dual meet of the season on Thursday, October 11th as they host Wright County Conference opponent Dassel-Cokato.
