The Waconia High School Girls Soccer program won the Section 2A title in convincing fashion defeating #3 seed Fairmont 3-0 at New Prague High School. Waconia was playing in its 3rd Section Final in 5 years and looked to dominate the pace of play from the initial whistle and for the full 80 minutes of play.
Creating 3 clear chances to score in the first 4 minutes of play, the Wildcats would not relent on their high line pressure and were rewarded with a goal just 7 minutes from the start of the match. A perfect cross from Grace Seim found center midfielder Chanda Breeggemann in the goal area and her powerful header beat both the keeper and the cardinal defense to open the score.
Waconia would record 10 more shots on goal over the next 12 minutes until a perfectly placed free kick from Sydney Stellick would give Jordan Grell a great opportunity to make the score 2-0. Grell’s powerful volley could not be stopped and the cats would head into halftime leading 2-0.
In the second half, Waconia withstood a great start by the cardinals who looked to get a goal back with dangerous through balls and shots from distance. Great defensive work by Ellie Gove, Sydney Stellick, Livi Grundhofer and Jenna Fawcett prevented Fairmont from getting a goal. Waconia’s Isabelle Shuster would have the save of the game for the Wildcats when left alone on a 1v1 with Fairmont’s Joni Becker. Shuster’s sliding safe would continue her unbeated goal streak and help give the Wildcats confidence.
At the 28th minute mark of the 2nd half, A great play by Bryn Theis found Melissa Honnold at the top of the 18 yard area and Honnold’s far-post shot made the score 3-0 and sealed the Section 2A Championship for the Wildcats.

Special Note – Recording their 10th victory in a row (dating back to September 24, 2019), the Wildcats have outscored their opponents 46 to 4. Isabelle Shuster and the rest of the Waconia defense continue to deny goal scoring opportunities and have not allowed a goal in 480 consecutive minutes of play.

Waconia High School girls soccer moves onto the State Tournament for the second time in program history and improve to 2-1 in Section Final play.

The State Tournament draw will take place on Saturday October 19 at 8 am at which point the Wildcats will know their opponent and date of play..
