With a hard fought victory over Delano High School, the Waconia Wildcats completed their regular season play with an undefeated record of 13-0-3 (8-0-1) and earn the title of Wright County Conference Champions!
Waconia dominated the first 20 minutes of play and were rewarded with a goal when center midfielder Chanda Breeggemann scored directly of a corner kick. With the score 1-0, the cats tried to slow down the play, but were caught on a counter attack and Delano tied the match just before half time.
With the score 1-1 and the conference title on the line, the Wildcats started the second half at a much faster pace and tried to play every ball inside of Delano’s half. The home team was happy counter attacking whenever possible.
Chanda Breeggemann almost broke the stalemate with a powerful volley from 25 yards out, but her shot hit the crossbar. Just minutes later, Delano would have a clear chance when the corner service was misplayed by the Waconia keeper but just as the ball was about to go in, Chanda Breeggemann kept the Wildcats in the game with a heroic goal-line header to clear the ball.
9 minutes from the end of the game, Waconia’s team passing was on full display, Haddy Falkman penetrated and dished the ball to Alexis Carmer who played a perfect crossing pass into the box for Chloe Jaeger. Jaeger turned the defender around and shot a perfectly placed left footed shot that made the score 2-1 and gave the Wright County Conference title to Waconia.
Waconia Wildcats move onto the Section tournament play ranked #2 in the section and #3 in the State.
Waconia will host a playoff game on Saturday October 13. Come out and cheer your Wildcats to victory
